Story of the Month – December 2011

1 Dec

The wind blew in the distance.  The snow began to fall softly on the ground.  The girl stepped off the porch and walked towards the giant tree.  She tapped the foot of the tree 3 times with her right wrist and a doorway emerged.  She looked around her, then stepped inside the door closing behind her.

Inside, there was sparkles of light everywhere.  It was another world.  A magical place where fairies and wizards reside in harmony ready to make anything magical.  Every December, KinderLand, as it was called worked to make sure that the holiday season made everyone’s hearts happy and bright.  Unfortunately, this year things would be difficult as KinderLand had recently been threatened.  Threatened by an outside force which most did not entirely understand or who could have even brought it against them–but all wizards and fairies agreed that their precious world was in grave danger.

Kinderland had always been a place of peace and happiness. The idea of being threatened had never occurred to any of the wizards, so they didn’t have a plan of action in case of potential harm. The biggest stress which ever ocurred only happened during years when people on earth resisted having holiday cheer. Those years had things like war and unemployment getting in the way, but the mood around the holidays could usually be lifted even if hard times occurred.

Tomorrow was the yearly holiday meeting. The fairies were preparing Kinderland for the arrival of their magical holiday counterparts, the fairies, wizards, elves, Krishna King, The Clause, Dirndle Carpenter Union members, and more. The number one issue was always how to bring peace, love, and holiday cheer; however, this year a threat will be on the agenda for discussion.

Set up and preparation had to be done for the arrival of the guests and dignitaries. Chairs were covered with sparkling holiday-bedazzled covers, decorative fixtures and wall coverings representing the various world holidays and subcultures were hung on the walls of the underground conference center, and magical lighting was illuminated for the first time since last December. Since harvest festivals from all over the equatorial regions and the Northern hemisphere had just finished, many newly harvested and prepared foods were being brought in from around the world. Summer had just started in the Southern hemisphere, so the contributions for the convention from those areas consisted of hand-crafted items which people had spent their Winter working on. Soon, the center would be ready for the big meeting.

An elf from the magnetic North Pole arrived. He was carrying a parcel from The Clause and his wife, as well as some fun little door prizes the Northern elves had created for the event. They were excited to see what the elves from the magnetic South Pole would contribute and couldn’t wait to see the fairies they played with, each year, at the annual meeting.

Maurice Elfkin thought about the sexy little fairy, Silowet, who he spent the three days with the year before, and was hoping he’d see her beautiful face, again, this year.

The annual meeting would begin, soon, and everyone was getting a little anxious. All the fairies and wizards had completed their jobs a little early and were standing around the hot cocoa/coffee machine whispering about their fears.

“Threats are threats in the onland world, guys. They have never meant much to us, before,” said Larimar. “We simply don’t know how to handle them in the underground.”

“I have an idea,” said Mishkaru, a beautiful fairy with purple tinged wings, “Why not try to trap the Dread and thwart his plans?”

“That isn’t an option, Mishie” replied Jonabelli, the smallest of the wizards, “because we don’t know what the actual threat means or where the Dread will be located.”

A letter from the Clause arrived. All the little wizards were excited to see what the elder had to say. They gathered in the gathering place where they gather together to gather information. Reginald climbed to the podium and asked for silence. One may have heard a pin drop, except for the clingin of holiday cheer in the other rooms.

“My Dear Friends of the World and Kinderland,

The Mrs. and I will be arriving a day early, and we are bringing reenforcements. Please prepare 18 new spots at dinner for the Secret Service Elf Patrol. Other than dinner, you will not see them for they will be busy keeping guard and spreading holiday cheer as a coverup.

    Sincerely,

    The Clause”

A quiet rumble of chatter arose to such a clatter as the wizards contemplated the excitement of the situation. In light of these new developments, some anxiety was relieved, and preparations continued as usual.
